IT support for dental practices
A dental practice runs on its practice software, its imaging and its patient records. If any of them stop, so do the appointments. Because you're a health service provider, the Privacy Act applies to you whatever your turnover.
What we look at first
- The server running your practice software and imaging, and whether its backups are tested
- Whether a cloud version of your practice software makes sense for you
- Reception and surgery computers: updates, antivirus and who can log in
- Patient information sent by email, SMS or online booking tools
- Multi-factor sign-in on email and remote access
- Protection against fake supplier invoices
We can look after the server in your practice too.
Rules worth knowing
- The Privacy Act. Health service providers are covered whatever their size. That includes reporting serious data breaches to the OAIC and to the patients affected.
- My Health Record. If your practice is registered for My Health Record, you need a written security and access policy (rule 42 of the My Health Records Rule 2016).
This is general information, not legal advice. Check your obligations with your adviser or professional body.
